All out support for RB's interview with PAGCOR. Lunch at Ahfat, snacks/dinner at Grand Regal Hotel's Champagne Bar, and then a movie at NCCC Mall afterwards.

Surprise! Surprise! Guess who came to visit us for a while? It was a long weekend filled with lunches and dinners and coffees and catching up with friends and meeting new ones and de-stressing and getting stressed and everything in between!

Our first Christmas Party after high school. The invite said "come in your favorite character" and among those who went, only a handful of us wore costumes. But this was so much fun so we should be making this an annual affair. Next Christmas' theme: Gods and Goddesses.

Post-Christmas visit to Mana and then coffee at Caffe Firenzo afterwards for more mochilato!

How the years fly by - it was the new year and we were already celebrating Frank's 24th (fine, 21st) birthday by good food, good friends and good music - never mind the tone deafness!

An accidental meeting at one of my favorite resto's with Frank's badminton buddies (and a couple of my former classmates).

RB's sister turned 18 in January. Of course Frank and I were representatives of the barkada to support our quasi-little sister!

We all met up again at Cams' for her 23rd birthday. Good people plus incredibly good food!

Just last Wednesday, Emily and I finally recruited some people to join us at Bigby's Trivia Night where we won 2nd place! Weeee!

We also went out last night because Lady was in town - but photos from her aren't up yet. Watch out for it in the next blog update! Overall, we had a pretty hectic past couple of months but spending time with my best of friends is worth it!

Summer to Fall

Last night I realized that I haven't updated this blog in ages! I'm sure a lot of things happened between May and now, but I'm too lazy to go into details so I'll just share with everyone a few of the highlights of these past months...

Surigao, Let's Go!

Frank, RB and I, along with Cams and Lloyd, went on a road trip to Surigao del Sur on the long weekend of August! I grew up between Agusan and Surigao, but the rest of the group are first timers.

We stayed in Northway Hotel in San Francisco, which was an hour drive away from Surigao del Sur. For our day trips, we visited Tinuy-An Falls in Bislig, Enchanted River in Hinatuan, and Letty's Terraces, a private resort, in Lianga. And because I wrote about this in detail already, go read it here.

House Party at Chic's

We were still hung over from a crazy road trip when we met up again at Chic's. She was in town 2 weeks after her birthday, but we still partied like it was her natal day!

I don't have a copy of the photos we took, but allow me to still share how crazy it was. There were too many food - all of them DELICIOUS, if I may add - and there were too many drinks! Again, thanks to tried and tested games, and very creative punishment negotiations, Frank had stripped naked before the night ended. HEEHAW! Who says we don't make good deals?

Omay: Still Young at 23

We were all crazy busy so we celebrated Omay's 23rd days late. But awesome people that we are, we celebrated it with a bang! and a splash, and laughter, and tears, and more laughter!

Oktoberfest

Fast forward to October - since we didn't see much of each other following Omay's birthday. It's another semestral break for students and Lady was back in town! I went to the salon for a supposedly quick visit and hola - I ended up having my hair dyed! After dinner at Lachi's, I cancelled on going to a friend's party, and decided to drink and christen the Fontilla's new crib instead. We had an impromptu sleepover with the bubwits because I ended up sleeping in the middle of watching a movie. Oops.

And then came RB's birthday. He invited us for dinner with his family. I intentionally ignored all his text messages and calls the whole day, and it was only Lady who mentioned about going since the rest of them are either busy or out of town or just couldn't care less. Our surprise consisted of ourselves and a cake! Yay! Plus we ended the evening on a discussion about love, life, and sex over a hot cup of coffee and 2 slices of Blugre's chocolate moist cake. Happy birthday, RB.

It was also Jude's birthday a few days later, but we didn't get to see him so... Belated Happy Birthday Jude!

Happy Halloween

While Lady and I were hanging out at the newly opened D'Leonor Inland Resort, we've decided that she'll be going with me to a halloween party my friend Zhaun is throwing at Marco Polo. I convinced her mom that they should donate some GC's to promote their salon. That aside, we ended up going with Eric, their new stylist. I had a blast especially since I got a little bit drunk, but not enough to make me lose my mind and drive intoxicated!

Fancy Night Out

And just last Sunday evening, Frank, RB and I went out for a fancy dinner at Mamu's. A bottle of bubbly (because they ran out of cheap read wine haha), some really delicious food, and an intimate ambiance was perfect for the relaxed mood I was looking for that night.

And we had coffee at the Roof Garden of Gaisano Mall for a nightcap. Ahhhh, life!

Villa de Mercedes

Villa de Mercedes is Davao's premiere residential resort about 15 minutes away from my place. You have to be a guest of a homeowner before you will be allowed to use their swimming pool and other facilities. Their coffee shop is open for the public though (I think).

I was supposed to go with my boss and a few people from work to Bohol that weekend, but I decided not to join them. But because I was jealous of their trip, I called up my boss and asked him to hook me up with a reservation for Villa de Mercedes. Saturday morning, we were confirmed for sponsorship!

Thank you bossing! You're the best!

Sunday Morning.

7AM: Telai has: Cooked. Cleaned. Laundered. Packed.

9AM: Frank, Nigel and Telaw arrived. No food whatsoever. No RB in sight.

After they picked me up at home, we went around Toril to buy ourselves some food for the pool party. When we got to VdM, we found out they only allow food brought in the picnic area in a separate place inside the subdivision.

The pool was still being cleaned when we got there, so yay! We decide to make use of their huts in the picnic area for brunch! We were assigned in Kubo 4, and were joined by a lot of pussies during our meal. HAHA.

Brunch was a riot. Lechon manok and grilled pork! Parang nasa beach lang.

When we finally got to the pool area, we were so amazed at the beauty of the place! What's more - there were no one else around but us! A vast swimming area and grounds exclusive to us = PARADISE!

For the rest of the day, we lounged, we swam, we played, we laughed, and we took lots of pictures! We completely forgot about sunblock, but who cares when you're in seventh heaven! We stayed there until they've turned on all the lights at the resort. Forget about Telaw having to leave by lunch time! Tumbling na lang!

Villa de Mercedes is definitely one of the nicest places I've ever been to in the city. I could live here. *Matawagan nga ang MFF (Mother Father Foundation) at nang makapag-raise ng funds to buy a house and lot here* HAHA.

Last December, we went bowling for the first time (as a group) ever! It was really fun!

Thrilla in Manila

Found myself on a plane with some of our friends over the weekend. RB and I took a mid-morning flight to Manila with Bryan and Telaw. Frank was supposed to go with us, but he bailed out a while back because of class. Lady wasn't sure until the last minute, but this escape was much more worth it than any of her med school dramas, I think. LOL

JV, as usual, picked us up from the airport and then we headed to Greenbelt for lunch. We met up with one of our first year high school classmates, Karl Pedregosa at Kitchen.

MORE PHOTOS AFTER THE BREAK.

The events soon after lunch are a bit blurry. We cancelled EK and opted to go to Tagaytay for dinner instead. But we found ourselves in Quezon City, disposing of our baggage, getting haircuts and yogurts, and delivering a box of milk fish to RB's relative - and suddenly, we didn't have enough time to go down south. It was a blessing in disguise really, because having been stuck in QC for the night, we have discovered the palatial wonders of Maginhawa St. in UP Teacher's Village!

We had dinner at Gayuma ni Maria. The theme of the restaurant is obviously love. Some items on the menu were called: HHWWPSSP (Holding Hands While Walking Pa-sway Sway Pa), Summer Fling, French Kiss, etc. The food is a little overrated, but if you're looking a cheesy dining experience, then this is the place for you.

After exclaiming "I'm very full" when dinner was finished, we ended up having more stomach fillers at Pino Bar along the same street also. Pino Bar is a Filipino fusion restobar, and they also serve vegetarian food.

They serve the most awesome (not to mention cheap) desserts! Their sisig taco's are delicious, their margarita gigantic, their tablea cheesecakes are divine, and their choco tempuras are out of this world!

By a unanimous decision, this was the best dessert of the night.

Afterwards, Lady, JV and Lloyd was able to convince us to try the drinks at Van Gough is Bipolar. What an experience! I didn't have any pictures there, but they really won't give justice to the place. It has to be EXPERIENCED. We didn't get to try their courses, though I heard their meals are great! We did try their Spicy Beer and Mel Gibson shooters instead! Everything, from the interiors to the restroom, to the food, to the drinks, to the neighborhood is very very interesting. This place is a must visit if you're in the area. (Insider tip: check out their restroom. It's the most unique thing ever!)

Afterwards, we went to Havana KTV for some videoke fun!

We ended around 3AM - we were the last group to leave the place! It was also already Camille's birthday so yay for celebration! Afterwards, we went back to JV's place to sleep, and in the case of Lloyd, Ian, and Lady, to drink some more!

As expected, we woke up late that morning! Like hours late! We were supposed to wake up at 8AM so we'll be on the road by 9, and then be at EK around 11! But oh well. We left QC at past 12 already! But traffic was minimal, and so we got there at half past 1! Time for more adventures!

Our last day in Manila was a very big blur! After dropping off Lady at the airport at around 4AM, we went back to Chic's house and slept until 11AM! We left around lunch and went on to do our own things and meet ups. Time was very short but we managed - barely though!

Because it was raining hard, we got afraid of the traffic on the way to the airport so left Makati really early! JV went after us to deliver our stuff which we left at his car.

Awww. So sad. It was a really short trip. Wish we could've extended for a few more days! We miss everyone!

Trip to Kapalong

It seems like we're always finding reasons to go back to Kapalong - home to the Alegre's! It was my third time to go back there last week!

The first time I went to Kapalong was back in 2006; for EJ's (Omay's neice) baptism. I went there with Abe (Omay's beau), Chic and Frank. We didn't know how to drive then so we took the bus to Tagum, and then Omay's family driver picked us up from there for Kapalong.

My second time in Kapalong was this September. Omay had a belated birthday celebration there, and so RB and I went with her and Abe. Unfortunately, RB had to leave really early the next morning so he really didn't get to see much of the place.

My most recent trip was only last week. After we had our little Christmas Party, Frank, Lady, Omay and I had a road trip to bring home Scarlet. We made a deal that we'll drive her to Kapalong so long as she joins the party. LOL It was Lady's first time there, btw. Chic wanted to join us but she was supposed to arrive only later than night so it wasn't really possible!

We really had loads of fun going there - especially in Omay's dad's prayer garden! Totes awesome!

I am definitely looking forward to our next barkada road trip. Perhaps to Agusan / Surigao next time? :)

And just when summer is about to end, Eleat and Co. went on an unforgettable adventure in Central Philippines! Yes! Level up na kami ngayon! Out of town na ang drama! Weeee!

QUEEN CITY OF THE SOUTH

You know you’re in Cebu when, while riding the cab, you pass by a store named “DAPNEY” (Daphne)! But I love it anyway. Yay for seeing my dad after a month!

Getting There

An early start for the weekend! Bryan, RB, Frank and I met up at the Davao Int’l Airport already, while Chic came in from Manila, and Lady was already in Cebu. I won a little basket during the in-flight game in Cebu Pacific! :) Our flight left Davao 30mins early. There’s supposed to be an hour difference in our flight and Chic’s but because of the change in ETA, we decided to meet up with everyone at the condo already instead of the original plan of waiting for Chic at the airport.

Accommodation

Thanks to my Tito Jerry for the free lodging in Cebu! We stayed in his condo unit (right across the hallway from my dad!) for a night! Weee! The girls stayed in the bed while the guys made do with the couch and the floor!

Transportation

We took a plane to Cebu, and while we were there we used public transportation before my dad went to pick us up in The Terraces for dinner! From then on, free ride! :)

Just for fun: we bought our Cebu plane tickets on sale last February. We spent around 2,300php for round trip tickets. And for the benefit of those going to Cebu, public transportation (Jeep!) costs around Php7 generally. Taking a cab is also not so bad. The traffic’s a little heavy but if you’re going somewhere near, I think it would be okay.

Tip: At the airport, do not take the yellow airport taxis or the fixed rate taxis right outside the Arrival Area. Instead, cross the street going up to the Departure Building and walk up the stairs. Turn left and head to the other end of the building and there you’ll see the regularly metered taxis!

Food Trip

Moon Cafe

We decided to have lunch at Ayala’s The Terraces. It took us a while to choose which place to eat because there were just lots of seemingly nice restos! In the end, we settled for Moon Cafe. With its name, I originally thought it was a Chinese Restaurant (read: Moon Cake), but it turned out to be a Mexican-inspired food haven.

The place was pretty warm – not so good considering it was scorching outside – and super packed. It was obvious the restaurant is popular in the metro. The food was also delicious! Of course we had to get Chimichanga because we don’t really frequent places that serves them! Nom nom nom.

Must Try: Baby Back Ribs! Not so expensive and oh so yum yum!

Casa Verde

When my dad agreed to have dinner with us our first night, we both decided to bring the crowd to IT Park’s Casa Verde. My sibs had been ranting about it when we were there last year, and because I haven’t been there, I decided to try it with the friends.

My gosh. You really wouldn’t believe how affordable the food it – considering their serving size! Daddy and my brothers were right, the food there is divine!

Must Try: Brian’s Ribs. For only Php188, you’ll get a plateful (and more!) of awesome steak goodness!

Sight Seeing

We actually didn’t have much time to sight-see while we were in Cebu. We went to Ayala for lunch. Bryan, Chic and Lady said that The Terraces looked like a mix of Trinoma and Greenbelt. We also went to SM. I wish we also have a North Wing version here in Davao! The boys went with Lady to her school at CIM. And later that evening we had dinner at The Walk in IT Park. IT Park is pretty self explanatory. Most major call centers in Cebu are located there so there are a lot of 24/7 establishments outside the area. It’s like Cebu’s very own version of The Fort.

Of course, the best sights of Cebu can be seen from the 38th/37th floor of Crown Regency Hotel via the Edge Coaster and the Sky Walk. From there, you can see a great view of the city including their White House inspired Capitol building.

Before leaving Cebu for Bohol, we couldn’t miss going to Basilica de Sto. Nino and Magellan’s Cross. The church never fails to give me goosebumps when I go there. Oh, not the creepy kind! It just feels so holy and happy when I’m there. :)

MUST TRY

When going to Cebu, never miss the opportunity to drop by Crown Regency Hotel’s 38th and 37th floors! The Extreme Adventures that are the Edge Coaster and the Sky Walk are a must! For the Edge Coaster, you will be seated in a coaster that goes around the side of the building, and that can incline up to 55 degrees, giving you a view of what lies below the 38th floor. It’s stomach churning! I don’t think we dared incline it to it’s full angle – that’s how scary it was for us, but we sure had fun! As for the Sky Walk, while the waiting takes a really long time, it’s very exciting because you get to walk in a glass pathway that surrounds the outside of the hotel’s 37th floor. The only thing between you and the ground are the glass and the harness.

The downside to these activities though are the cost of the photographs. The rides are ok, but the photos are way over priced! We had to pay 550php per pair for only 6 photos for the edge coaster; and 1300+php as a group for 20 photos for the Sky Walk because we weren’t allowed to bring our own cameras. BOO. HISS. But the expense notwithstanding, it was a pretty cool experience!

It’s been a while since I blogged here. My friends aren’t any help. I’m the only one who updates this site! Why oh why?!

And because I am lazy enough, I’ll be sharing a few highlights for the month of February in the life of Eleat. Prepare for a very long post!

CONGRATULATIONS, RN’s!

Our dear Lady and Donna are finally REGISTERED NURSES!!! After months of reviewing, and then a few more of torturous waiting, they have finally received the fruits of their labor!

THE ROAD TRIP

To celebrate her success in passing the board exams, Lady’s family had organized a Thanksgiving Party for her in the mountains of Midsayap! Lady had been there since Christmas, and of course, a few of us from Eleat took the chance to have an impromptu ROAD TRIP!

Frank, RB and I snuck out RB’s car, Sam, to North Cotabato! We were only supposed to ride a public van, but oh well we couldn’t let the opportunity that is Sam pass us by! :)

Unfortunately, Donna wasn’t able to go with us because (1) she originally didn’t have enough funds for the originally planned commute; (2) when we told her we’d be bringing Sam, her mom didn’t allow her to go anymore. Too bad. As for Omay, she wasn’t allowed to go with us especially since we’re going to a world-famous war zone! LOL

RB was our designated driver for the trip. It was his first time to drive outside the city limits! And what first time it was – 4 hours of driving in unknown territory!

LADY’S THANKSGIVING PARTY

Lady’s thanksgiving party was the bomb! It lasted all night long!

The food and drinks were C-R-A-Z-Y!!! The Fontilla family definitely wanted to fatten us up – as if we need any more fats!

Without planning it, the four of us wore black to party. SAN ANG LUKSA?! Haha.

All of us, including the Fontilla bubwits, slept at around 3AM already. We didn’t have enough strength to wake up for the early morning mass with Lady’s family.

Before heading home, Lady brought us to their farm.

We dropped by the Church from the farm. Their Catholic Church there is really pretty!

Right before going home, we took the chance to do a little PHOTOSHOOT FOR VALENTINES DAY! :)

Yes, Yes… We know we’re vain!

The last time I spent Valentine’s Day with them was 5 years ago, I think. Back when were still in High School! After years and years and years of planning, we have finally “indulged” in a road trip!

SLIDEEEEEEEEE!!!

Soooo, on the next weekend, Frank and I planned another adventure! This time, we were with Abe and Omay!

Very early on the Sunday after Valentine’s Day, the four of us headed out to Samal Island to visit Maxima and it’s famous slide!

I’ve been there before already, so I played the role of photographer to my beautiful friends! That said, can anyone please remove Abe from the picture as he is not beautiful? JK!

We had a really amazing time out there despite all the body pains we got as souvenirs!

We tried the slide and the diving board several times! And to conclude the adventure, we tried the canopy walk at the top of the cliff!

So anyway, it’s such a lame time of the year for us. Hopefully, it’ll get better in the next few weeks now that classes are about to end, yes?

Lady just arrived from Cebu/Dumaguete today, and Chic will be home by next week for the Holy Week. Unfortunately, Jude is still stuck with his thesis, but you can read more updates about him in his BLOG. He is definitely Mr. American Idol! :)

Also, watch out for our out of town trip by the end of May! I’ll be blogging about it here for sure!

Frank’s 22nd Birthday Celebration

We celebrated Frank’s birthday late, as usual! But it was still so fun. FOOD TRIP!

A while back, Frank and I decided not to repeat eating at restaurants we’ve already been to so we could explore the local dining places. Last night, we decided to have dinner at this new restaurant, BUONA TERRA Deli and Creperie. According to their menu,

“Here at Buona Terra, we attempt to provide you with a glimpse into the regional Southern European flavors, where the taste is robust and clear, unfettered by complicated sauces and heavy dollops of cream and butter.”

As usual, Chic, Lady and Jude are not around to celebrate with us. :( That aside, we had a great time over great food!

Omay is back from the States!

I was in Kangaroo last Friday, taking advantage of the free charging and free wifi. After RB’s duty at DMC, he went straight there and I treated him to a cup of (ice blended) coffee. Soon after, Omay and Frank were there as well. We were all waiting for Lady who was still all the way in SM.

I suggested we eat at Pepper and Peppers. I’ve known about the place since college, but I’ve never been there, and neither have the rest of the bru’s. Lately, we’ve been trying to discover new places to eat in the city!

The place was cozy and the food was delicious (and affordable!) but the service was awful. Sorry, no tips for the waitresses.

We planned to have desserts at the cake shop right outside the restaurant but it was already closed after we had dinner so we went to Fagioli’s Quirino from some sweet indulgence.

Afterwards, we went to NCCC Mall to watch a movie. 2012 tickets were sold out already when we go there so we just watched “Ang Tanging Pamilya” instead. Guess who we saw standing in line at the movie house?

Say hello to one of October 2009’s CPA Board Exam topnotcher! That’s Mr. Top 3, Joseph Bulao, Summa Cum Laude, CPA!

While waiting for the movie to start, we decided to spend our time playing in Time Zone. Frank and I played this zombie game, The House of the Dead, if I’m not mistaken. No one could miss us while we were playing because we were too loud! HAHA. Php100 worth of game credits gone in less than 20 minutes! The game was too intense!

As for the movie, it was funny, though a bit over rated. Kimmydora is still the best Filipino comedy movie of the year!

From NCCC, Frank brought each of us home. He was the official DD for the night! Thanks bru! We dropped by a while at Omay’s to get our pasalubongs! Thanks for switching the Snickers for Twix with me RB’s! and thanks for the pasalubongs May!

It was such a good night! Too bad Donna wasn’t able to join us. She never did reply to our messages! *sob*

Oh well, there’s always a next time! And hopefully, Jude and Chic will be able to join us as well! :)

Dinner + Coffee + Movie

Last October 28 (HAPPY BIRTHDAY JUDE!), I found myself having dinner with Frank, Lady and RB at Tong Yang in Chimes. It was my first time there, and Frank and RB ordered so many food! The Shabu-Shabu experience was pretty cool!

Afterwards, we went to NCCC to check out the movies currently showing. While waiting for the Last Full Show, we went to MTS for some coffee and desserts at Blugre.

I have a new favorite dessert! The Brownie Ala Mode-ish dessert at Blugre was TDF!

We watched The Time Traveler’s Wife. Lady’s already seen the movie back in Dumaguete and I’ve already read the book, but I still cried buckets. I’m such a sucker for romances ending in death. Frank said the movie didn’t meet his expectations. Possibly because Lady and I were gushing about it the whole evening, being the mushy people that we are, and that made him expect a lot. I think. HAHA.

Friday Night Lights

Went out Friday night with Frank, Lady, and her brother JB. I suggested we go to this restaurant I saw in Legaspi Compound that I haven’t tried yet.

At first I thought Selera is a European-ish restuarant. But no, they serve Pinoy food. (Click here for food review) The place wasn’t too big, but it was cozy and has a really classy ambiance. The decor was also very pretty. I even like their restroom!

Before going to Coffee Plus to meet with Jude, we went around Legaspi Compound and checked out the Ayurvedic Massage and Yoga Studio that we saw in the first floor. After seeing the place, we were planning on going there one of these days.

And we just couldn’t resist dropping by Beer Avenue 147 for some alcohol loving.

They serve a wide variety of local and imported beverages in Beer 147 Avenue. They have drinks from Czech Republic, USA, Mexico, China, etc etc etc.

Since Frank and I were driving, we just had a bottle of Vodka Mudslide in Cappuccino and the Gilbey’s Premium Strength with Green Tea Extract. Mmmm!

The place is perfect for social drinking and good conversation. It can also be a sports bar of some sorts because they have a big TV near the counter. The bartenders weren’t so friendly though. But the place more than makes up for it.

Lady sure looked like she was in alcohol heaven. HAHA. We are planning to go back there and try each and every international drink we can get our hands on. Hurray!

And then finally, we went to Coffee Plus to see Jude! I already saw him in SM BDO earlier in the week but I didn’t get the chance to talk to him. I can’t seem remember when the others have last seen him.

But first, say hi to Tubz, one of the Roque family’s dog. Don’t ask why she’s named that way. HAHA

It really makes me wonder how it always seem as if nothing has changed much. Oh well, I guess that’s what you call friendship! :)

We had more food at Coffee Plus, as expected. You’d think we were really hungry! LOL

And oh, guess who else was in Coffee Plus that night?

Ok. Nica dwarfed all of us. And I’m pretty sure Jasmine will do the same in a few years. HAHA. Hurray for long time friends and their families! :)

A total of 32,617 out of 77,901 passed the Nurse Licensure Examination, conducted last June 2009, the Professional Regulation announced Saturday.

Among these 32,617 passers is our dearest friend RHYAN BEN M. DASALLA!!!

Our first REGISTERED NURSE! We are all so proud of you RB! And I know your mom must be partying in heaven right now from happiness and excitement at everything that you’ve achieved.

I guess all the screaming Lady and I did while we were in Hong Kong must have paid off! We always knew you could do it!

WE ARE PROUD OF YOU RB!!! CONGRATULATIONS!

Eleat would also like to extend our congratulations to our friends Trisha Wee, Soleil Ang, Janna Buelis, and all the others who passed the June 2009 Board Exam. All the hard work finally paid off!

Meet JOEY

Last June 11 (Thursday), Frank gave us a new baby! She was red, shiny, beautiful, and obviously brand new! We christened the new addition to the Eleat family with an androgynous name: Joey.

We spent a whole afternoon with Joey! Frank drove from Buhangin to Toril and then in one of the busiest streets in downtown Davao, Uyanguren. It was such a riot since Frank picked up all of us: Telai, Lady, and AbeOmz.

We met RB in Gaisano Mall – and we were faced with the daunting task of making it at the parking lot of GMall. Frank parked Joey awkwardly, he couldn’t even get out at his side of the door!

We also tried to pick up Donna but she wasn’t there when we got to her house. We had a good time parking the car though. We all didn’t notice the big “NO PARKING” sign in front of the building because we were busy helping Frank to park Joey. Hello! We were parallel parking! When we left, a lot of the people there tried to help us – they couldn’t wait to see us leave! Haha.

Before Frank brought Joey home, we dropped off the barkada at Lachi’s (we went there AGAIN) . From Laverna, Frank’s driver brought us back to Lachi’s to join ELEAT for dinner. Since Joey’s home already, we rode the cab to NCCC where we ended the happy day by watching a scary movie: Drag Me To Hell. Meeting Joey for the first time was indeed very exciting!

Lady and Telai’s Summer Adventure

Lady and I had our first trip abroad last June 3-7. We spent 3 days in Hong Kong, and had a day tour in Macau, together with Lady’s mom, Tita Bing.

I must say, the trip from Manila to Hong Kong was shorter than the trip from Manila to Davao. Although Hong Kong is way more industrialized than Manila, it was cleaner and they have more efficient transportation system. Thankfully, most people in Hong Kong spoke English so we really didn’t have a hard time communicating. Macau is a different story though.

Transportation

We took the plane from NAIA2 to Hong Kong, and vice versa. Our flight out got delayed for more than an hour because it was raining so hard in Manila. In Hong Kong, we used almost all of their modes of transportation. The MTR was the most efficient, although it was a bit crowded. The subway was clean, and had clear directions, we couldn’t get lost even if we tried to. The MTR to Disneyland Resort was just the cutest!

The cable car from Tung Chun to Ngong Ping 360 village gave us a great view of the landscape and seascape of Lantau Island. It’s a long ride but it’s shorter compared to riding the bus, and the view is so worth it. And speaking of views, the Peak Tram, one of the steepest trains in the world, gave us a unique view of Hong Kong, in an almost 45 degree angle.

We also tried the HK cabs from the lower Peak Tram terminus to Admiralty station but it’s quite expensive. Their double decker buses are less expensive, and they’re quite easy to ride because the routes are all spelled out at the bus stops. But the cheapest ride we had in HK was definitely the Star Ferry. It takes you from Kowloon to Hong Kong Island, and gives a really beautiful panoramic view of the Victoria Harbor.

We took the jet from Hong Kong to Macau and vice versa. On our way, we had a rocky ride at Cotai Jet. On the way back, we rode the Turbo Jet and arrived safe and sound in Hong Kong and then left again after a few hours for Manila.

Food

I love the food in Hong Kong! A little spicy here and there, and definitely unique from the regular Chinese food in the Philippines. On our first night, we tried their street food and it was really good. I love the Lobster Balls while Lady went nuts with the Scallops and Tofu. In our future meals, Lady and I noticed that the rice servings in Hong Kong are ginormous! We frequent this restaurant near the MTR Exit A2 in TST, and tried different HK dishes that were cheap and delicious.

After our trip, Lady swore off eating Chinese Food. She’s had enough for a time from all that we ate while we were there.

Shopping

We weren’t able to go to the famous night markets in Hong Kong because we didn’t have enough time and so our shopping spree was very limited. We mostly just bought pasalubongs for our friends and family.

Tourist Attractions

On our first day in Hong Kong, we visited the biggest bronze statue in the world, the Tian Tan Buddha in Po Lin Monastery near Ngong Ping 360 Village. We also made our childhood dreams come true by visiting the happiest place in the world: Disneyland! However, both our batteries ran out halfway through our fun, which was the low point of the day.

Of course we also took our fill of the beautiful skyscrapers of Hong Kong from Victoria Harbor and Victoria Peak. We also had lots of fun taking photos with wax versions of international celebrities at Madame Tussauds.

Of course, a visit to Hong Kong wouldn’t be complete without a stop at Ocean Park. Lady and I had sensory overload trying out all the rides at the famous amusement park. We screamed our hearts out when we tried “The Abyss.” It felt as if we both left our brains and intestines at the top. I also got the chance to see real Pandas while Lady and Tita Bing tried the hot air balloon.

I just laugh at how we look after the ride at “The Abyss.” Tita Bing was laughing at us as well when we went up to meet her after doing all the rides.

We were lucky enough to be able to see the Symphony of Lights, the worlds largest permanent light show. After the show, we strutted along Avenue of the Stars and posed at the stars of famous Chinese celebrities.

Macau

We arrived in Macau right before lunch. Thanks to the free shuttle rides in the old colony of Portugal, we didn’t have to spend a cent in travelling around Macau. We tried everything we can in this pretty mini-Europe.

A visit in Macau wouldn’t be complete without a stop at The Venetian Macao. We love the feel of Italy inside the hotel. The sky-like ceiling was also pretty amazing, as well as the indoor canals, gondolas and the interior design as a whole. The Venetian Macao is actually one of the biggest airconditioned buildings in the world.

We definitely didn’t miss riding in the Gondola inside The Venetian. Our gondolier was very pretty, and she’s really Italian, or so she says. She has a pretty voice too. Here’s a video of her serenading “us” as we rode down the Grand Canal.

I think Macau is one of the most interesting places in the world. We toured around Senado Square, and we also walked all the way up to the Ruins of St. Paul. The contrast between the European architecture and the Chinese people is amazing. I could almost feel I’m in Europe except that the people speak Chinese which was weird. We actually had a hard time communicating with the people in Macau because most of them don’t speak English.

Another thing that makes Macau very interesting is the presence of world renowned hotels and casinos among the cultural heritage sites. One moment you’re seeing a very modern themed hotel, and the next thing you know you’re in front of a European-inspired building or park.

Although we were very tired already, Lady and I didn’t miss the chance to visit Macau’s Fisherman’s Warf. Tita Bing stayed inside Sands Hotel while we wandered around Macau’s very own Little Europe, with replicas of Rome’s The Coliseum and Ceasar’s Palace.

In Macau, we indulged in a lot of gelatos: in Senado Square and in The Venetian! I also love the egg tarts there. We never got hungry on the way up to the Ruins of St. Paul because of all the free taste of Macau delicacies like beef jerky. We also got to eat at a McDonald’s there and found the difference in the Menu interesting.

We were exhausted after the trip! We almost couldn’t walk while we were in Macau because our feet were already sore from too much walking. From Macau, we went back to Hong Kong to get our bags from the hotel and then we were off to the airport in the middle of the night. We ended up sleeping at the airport for a few hours before our flight to Manila the next morning.

The entire trip was exhausting yet it was very memorable! Hopefully, the rest of ELEAT can join us in our next trip! So, where to next: Thailand? Singapore? Paris? New York? TARALETS!

1-Xavier Mini-Reunion in Manila

It’s not everyday that a lot of us are in Manila at the same time. Last May 29, 2009, Frank, Lady, Chic, and I had a mini-reunion in Manila with our 1st year high school classmates Cams, JV, and Bryan.

Chic works in Manila, Frank was in town from a visit to his relatives in Bicol, Lady was on vacation with her family, and I was there for the AmCham get together and for the Hong Kong and Macau trip with Lady and her mom. Although Jude is also in Manila for his studies, he wasn’t able to join us that night because it was his dad’s birthday.

It’s been 4 years since we’ve all been together. Despite the time and distance apart, we’ve remained good friends through the years.

The Reunion

Cams and I were on the same flight to Manila that morning. JV picked us up at the airport, and they both dropped me off to Makati to meet with Frank as they headed out for training (JV) and org meeting (Cams).

I had lunch with Frank and his family in Glorietta. Finally, I’ve met Frank’s baby brother Prince Tristan! After we sent off his family for SM MOA, Frank and I toured Glorietta, Landmark, and Greenbelt, while waiting for the others to finish off their appointments for the day.

When we texted Chic that afternoon, she was surprised to know that Frank was also in town! Since it was Frank’s first visit with Chic in Manila, Chic treated us to some delicious French Crepes in Greenbelt 3.

We were supposed to go with her to The Fort, but Frank and I decided to wait for Cams in Makati, instead. After spending some time in Glorietta, the 3 of us decided to go to Mega Mall to wait for the rest of our friends. We had dinner at Sbarro, and Bryan joined us there. Afterwards, we went to Starbucks where a frazzled JV picked us up. We were so rowdy and noisy in the car, I think we may have shocked Frank a bit because he was the neophyte in our Manila escapades. We stayed at JV’s while waiting for Lady to be back from her trip to Pampanga. There we freshened up, and chatted for a bit with his hot brother. We also played Guitar Hero, and then had so much fun playing Cooking Mama!

However, we had to cut short our games when Lady texted that she was ready to be picked up at White Plains. We were supposed to go dancing that night but we couldn’t decide where, so we ended up having a few drinks in Pier One at Tomas Morato, where we met with Chic.

We didn’t like the service and the crowd, and so we went around the metro and ended up in Eastwood. Chic, Frank, Bryan and I had midnight buffet at Something Fishy, while Cams, Lady, and JV had cocktails.

It was already 2:30am when we finished eating, and we were supposed to go to Manor, but last minute, we decided to go to Malate instead. When we got there, however, we chickened out and didn’t get down because of the ‘crowd’, and went on a joy ride instead. We ended up at Starbucks in People Support.

We started to head for home at around 5am already. We dropped Frank off at his hotel in Pasay, and then Bryan and Chic in Makati, Cams in Quezon City, and then Lady and I stayed at JV’s for the rest of the morning.

We slept there for a couple of hours, and then Bong and I had to bring Lady back to White Plains at around 9:00am. I went back to JV’s to get more shut eye, and then after lunch, JV dropped me off at Trinoma to meet with Bryan, Telaw and Cams.

We stayed out until 7PM. JV picked us up again, and brought us to our respective homes: Telaw in Espana, Bryan in Makati, and me in Pasay. Wheeew. What a mini-reunion. It still feels the same to be with them after all these years!

8 years ago, we were just innocent high school-ers who were in the same class together. Even then, we were already crazy and loud. 8 years later, this is what we’ve become:

Food Trips and More

ELEAT is famous for our food trips, loud voices, louder laughter, and never-ending bloopers.

Even before Lady went back to town, we’ve been to endless food trips! Let me recap all the foods we’ve had in the past 4 weeks. ENJOY THE FOOD PORN! ;)

(1) Cakes Galore: Lachi’s and Sugar Munch

Frank and I were supposed to meet RB at 3PM but since he was super duper late, we decided to eat at Lachi’s. Frank had the (1) Unforgettable Baby Back Ribs and the (2) New York Cheesecake with Blueberries. I had the (3) Pasta with Red Pesto Sauce, and the (4) 5-Chocolate Torte Cake. While we were walking the roads of Marfori to supposedly burn the fats from Lachi’s, we dropped by Sugar Munch and had their (5) Strawberry Shortcake.

(2) Yellow Cab at SM

Frank, RB and I had dinner at Yellow Cab. The three of us devoured the (1) 14-inch Manhattan Meat Lover’s Pizza and (2) Sola Raspberry Drink.

(3) Al’s Diner

Frank and I went out to have lunch at Al’s Diner. Frank had (1) Savory Beef Rice (2) Al’s Happy Burger with Medium Crinkle Fries and (3) Mango Milkshake. I had Al’s Happy Burger with Medium Crinkle Fries and (4) Strawberry Milk Shake.

(4) Kopi Roti

After Frank finished his day’s transaction at the Med School, we both decided to eat at Kopi Roti. Frank and I shared the (1) Kopi Bun and (2) Kaya Toast. I had (3) 2 cups of their delicious Kopi, while Frank could only take 1.

(5) McDonald’s GMall

Lady was late for our 5PM. Frank was starving and so we decided to go with Frank to McDo while waiting for Lady. Mostly, Frank devoured his Burger Meal, but Donna, RB and I shared the fries with him.

(6) Lachi’s

Went to Lachi’s in Marfori for dinner. Frank and I had the Unforgettable Baby Back Ribs; Lady had the Mandarin Chicken; Donna had the Lechon Kawali; and RB had the Elsie’s Melt-in-your-Mouth Pork. Dessert was on Frank and we had the most sumptuous cakes! We ordered the (1) Dulce de Leche Cheesecake [It was everyone’s favorite, I think.] (2) Black and White (3) 5-Torte Chocolate (4) Macadamia Bar and (5) Luscious Mud Pie. The Peppermint Tea I had helped me digest these babies. Hahaha.

(7) Chips + Tequila

Donna, Frank, Lady, and RB went to my house for some bonding moments over Tequila. We devoured (1) Clover Chips (2) Doritos (3) Lays and (4) Cheezy. When the chips were gone, my brother Klyde cooked us a can of corned beef while we finish off the 950mL Jose Cuervo Tequila.

(8) Sleepover

Being the ELEAT-ers that we are, we ate a lot during the sleepover with Frank and Lady. We had (1) KFC’s Box of 8 of their Original Fried Chicken for dinner. And then there was the (2)Pastel and the (3)1kilo Spaghetti! Lady and I ate the extra cheese for snacks. Haha. And we had Frank’s pasalubong (4) Strawberry Jam and (5) bread for breakfast. And to help us swallow all of these was the “kinutaw” Iced Tea. :)

(9) Badminton + Window Shopping

I met Frank for lunch at SM’s Rai Rai Ken before heading out to our badminton reservation with Lady and her siblings. Frank and I had the (1) Jurassic Maki, which was really really good (2) Chicken Teriyaki Don, and (3) Ebi Curry Rice. After our sweaty 2-hour ‘game’, we all went out to check the bargain malls near the court. On our way out, we all enjoyed some much-loved street foods! I had the (4) Kwek-Kwek, while the rest of them enjoyed the exotic (5) Proven.

I wasn’t around for this one, but I know they had dinner at Penong’s with our high school buddy, Ian.

(11) Friday at the Fontilla’s

It is common knowledge that the Fontilla’s mountain home is well-stocked with delicious food! Frank, Omay and I went there to indulge our baboy-ish appetites. From 3PM to 9:30PM, we ate the following: (1) Strawberry Jam and Bread (2) Kalamay (3) Polvoron (4) Mixed Veggies (5) French Fries (6) Penne Pasta with the exotic tasting spaghetti sauce-ish with eggs and milk c/o Tita Bing Fontilla (7) Panga and Rice (8) Manggang Hilaw (9) Pretzels (10) Lechon Manok (11) Liempo (12) Fried Sword Fish (13) Double Dutch Ice Cream (14) Pineapple Juice (15) etc.

NOTE: The above items are stated randomly, as much as I can remember all that we ate that day.

(12) MTS

Went to our favorite High School food trip destination, Taste of Home. Frank, Lady and I had the (1) Red Sauce Pasta. We also had (2) Buko Pie (3) Cheese Cupcake and (4) Chocolate Sylvanna’s. We went to Aling Foping’s and had (5) Special Halo-Halo and (6) Bibingka while waiting for our turn at the Paintball area. After playing, we joined Mr. and Mrs. Fontilla at Taboan for some (7) Pica-Pica plate composed of Cheese Sticks, French Fries, Kropek, Mr. Chips, Green Peas, and Garlic ‘chips'.’ (8) and then had Fried Chicken for dinner!

Now that Lady’s heading back to the mountains and seas of Dumaguete, and Frank will be going back to the war town of Pikit, the Davao food trips for the Summer ‘09 will now come to an end.

Hoping to see you guys in Manila in 2 weeks! Can’t wait to have more food trips with Frank, Lady, CHIC, and JUDE in Manila! And of course, Lady and I are on for more food trips in Hong Kong next month! Can’t wait to live the ELEAT life over and over again! :)

Sports Day

Another one of our impromptu plans.

We decided to go play badminton yesterday while we were busy Plurking.

Frank and I met at SM for lunch. Lady wasn’t able to go (as expected. Haha.) and so, as usual, me and my parter-in-crime in Food Trips had a date at Rai Rai Ken.

Frank didn’t know how to use the chopsticks and I laughed out loud when I was looking at him fork-ing the maki. Haha.

And for our main meal, I had the Chicken Teriyaki Don, while Frank had the Ebi Curry Rice.

In fairness, there was a big hole in my wallet after we left the Japanese Resto.

Afterwards, Frank and I headed out for Smashville for our badminton reservation.

Lady and her siblings, Audrey and JB, came a full 30 minutes after our 2PM appointment. Haha. Translation: Played one-on-one with Frank for that same amount of time. Results: EXHAUSTION and MUSCLE PAIN.

We played for a good 2 hours. Audrey and I came out of the rest room looking like we just took a shower. (Oh honey, it’s just sweat. Haha) Since Lady didn’t run a lot while playing, she looked normal. Haha.

Before going our separate ways, we window-shopped at 168. Yes, Davao has our own version of Divisoria. Lady and I made plans to shop before she leaves for Dumaguete. We also had a great time devouring the street foods along Uyanguren. I enjoyed 2 pieces of Kwek-Kwek (Deep Fried Chicken Egg with orange-y coating. Eaten with Cucumber on the side and showered with vinegar) while the rest of them ate lots and lots of Proven. (Pig’s gizzard, or something, according to Frank.)

In fairness, street vendors these days have evolved. The ad at the Proven cart caught my attention and I smiled at their marketing efforts.

Kakaibang Lasa! Kukulangin ang Isa!

While Lady and her siblings headed out to their mom’s office nearby, Frank and I went to Ateneo to get our yearbooks before we headed for our own homes.

What a day, I swear. Woke up this morning with my body in pain. Especially my “PATA” part and my arms. Next time, I won’t play with Frank for more than 10 minutes to avoid pain. Haha.

Sleepover Madness

Frank and Lady decided to have a sleepover at my place on Friday, May 8. You could just imagine the chaos that we created spending the night together.

PART 1: DINNER
They arrived at around 8PM and I haven’t had anything since 10Am that morning. I was STARVING! They brought a Box of 8 from KFC. Frank and I devoured the dinner while Lady was pretending to be on a diet. Had a big laugh while watching May Bukas Pa because of a misunderstanding.

Lady: San pala galing si Santino?
Telai: Sa stork.
Lady: (With a BELIEVING look on her face.) SERIOUSLY???
Frank: (Looking bewildered but I think he also bought what I said)
Telai: (LAUGHS OUT LOUD AT FRANK AND LADY’S EXPRESSION. Almost chocked from laughing too much. Tummy ached. Couldn’t stop laughing for a long time.) OMG. Naniwala talaga kayo???
Frank and Lady: (Didn’t get why I was laughing so hard.) WHAT’S FUNNY?
After a while…
Telai: Binili niyo talaga yung “galing siya sa STORK” na story??? *laughs more*
Frank and Lady: Ahh.. STORK pala. Kala namin STORE! Now we know why you’re laughing.
Telai: (Still can’t stop laughing.)

PART 2: SHOPPING
Went out to buy some stuffs for our sleepover. Our kitchen is embarrassingly under stocked since I had to do the grocery because my mom is out of town. (Read: BUDGET) Laughed out load at Lady’s bisaya terms.

PART 3: COOKING
Lady prepared us some Spaghetti for our midnight snacks. Frank and I were useless in the kitchen so we just accompanied Lady with occasionally helping lady stir the sauce, prepare the pasta, etc. Frank was soooo funny. I swear. He didn’t know how to cook the pasta. I can’t really explain it here. Plus, he got burned from the steam coming out of the pasta while he was pouring it into the strainer. Cooked a lot of food! There are still some pasta left in our fridge, but the sauce is gone.

PART 4: SLEEPOVER PROPER
Lots of talks, laughs and cam whoring with Frank’s Mac. Got accompanied by our pseudo-housemate, RB, on the phone. We slept at around 5AM. The sun was already starting to come up by then. Woke up at around 10am. Had Pastel for breakfast, and left-over pasta for lunch. Frank and Lady left at around 3PM already.

I really do miss hanging out with my best friends from High School, ELEAT. Wish we could do this again soon with more of us in attendance.

Tequila Night

Went out and had a fabulous time with ELEAT tonight.

Lady: Yes. I'm going to ligo na..

Frank: Yep. Maybe I'll be late. I'm still at the Med School. I haven't been interviewed yet.

Frank: Bru, are you still at home? Can you google Swine Flu?

Telai: No internet right now. Ask lady. On my way to the mall.

Lady: Frank asked me to google something. I'm on my way to the jeepney stop.

5:00PM

RB: I'm on my way.

Telai: I'm in GMall already. Where are you?

RB: Wait for me. I'm almost there. About 5minutes.

Telai: Yeah right. LOL

5:30PM

Donna: Telz!!!

Telai: Donz!!!

RB: Donna! You're here!

Telai: 5 minutes, RB? Frank! You're back! Where's my strawberry jam?

Frank: I'm hungry. Let's go to McDo.

Lady: Bru!!!!!!!!!

Telai: I'll have Peppermint Tea.

Lady: Hahahah. You're going to drink tea??? Hahahaha.

Frank: Dessert is my treat

After Dinner

Lady: I want to drink. Let's buy Absolut Peach. Where do we buy?

RB: Ha? I can't! I have to go home and study!

Frank: Go. Let's go to Telai's.

Donna: What??? Telai's???

Telai: I don't drink anymore! But you can stay at my house. The parents are not around.

We then went to NCCC Mall to buy Vodka.

But they didn't have Absolut Peach.

Frank and Lady decided to buy the Jose Cuervo Tequila instead.

While buying stuffs for the tequila night at Telai's,

ELEAT saw and visited with our High School friend Jewells.

She's now working at the NCCC Supermarket

as an Operations Supervisor Trainee.

Lady: Are we taking a cab?

Telai: Up to you guys. But we have to ride another jeep from here to get to my place.

Frank: Let's ride this Hop On Hop Off jeep instead!

RB and Lady: First time!

Donna: We always ride this one when we have community duty.

We were the first people to ride the jeep,

everyone was so excited and loud.

After a while, 3 people who have apparently went grocery shopping for fish

also rode the jeep.

ELEAT: *silence and knowling looks*

Telai: gets handkerchief from bag.

RB: Tel, I don't want to say anything. I don't want to sin! Karma! I still have to take the board exam soon!

Donna: couldn't take it and gets handkerchief also

Unfortunately, booze induced conversation are slightly hazy.

Had so much fun teasing Lady about Mr. Surigao Forest and all our other private plurk moments.

ELEAT left Telai's at around 11PM.

Walked in the Rain. A bit wasted. Hehe.

Decided to sleep over on Friday!!!

Can't wait for another bonding moment with Eleat and Co.! :)

Hong Kong Trip

Lady: Bru, I’m going to Hong Kong with Mama.

Telai: Wow bru! I’m jealous! Can I go with you? *laughs*

Lady: Sure!

Telai: Ok. I’ll ask my mom. *hopeful*

(After a while… On Sunday)

Telai: Bru, I won’t ask my mom anymore. She’s not answering my calls. *resigned*

Lady: Ok.

(that night)

Lady: Bru, mama’s asking if you wanna go with me!

Telai: I want to, but I don’t think my parents will allow me. *still resigned*

Lady: Bru, go with me to Hong Kong! Mama can’t go and she won’t allow me to go alone.

Telai: Ok. I’ll try to ask my parents again.

Lady: Go ask them! Tomorrow’s the last day of the promo so go!

(Telai keeps texting and calling parents but no one answers.)

Telai: Bru, my parents are not answering my messages. I’ll just text you when I talk to them.

(very early on Monday Morning on the phone)

Telai: Bruu!!! OMG. Mom said I could go with you to Hong Kong!!!

Lady: Bru! Really??? I’ll tell mama now! You’re really going???

Telai: I’m really going! But I don’t have money yet! Mom’s still in Tacloban.

Lady: That’s okay. Mama will pay muna. What’s $58??? Anyway, mama wants to meet you today.

Telai: Ok. I hope we could still get in. *unsure*

Lady: Mama can do miracles!

(Monday afternoon at the PAL Office)

Lady’s Mom: I’m giving you the list of our names, flight schedule, and the money. Your priority number is 511.

Telai: Ok, tita. Thank You!

Lady: through text. Bru. I must look crazy. I can’t stop smiling.

(after 48years at the PAL Office, on the phone)

Telai: Bru!!! We got in! OMG! We have tickets!

Lady: BRUUU!!! REALLY??? *screams at Telai* THIS IS IT!

Telai: This is it! We’re really going!

Lady: We’re really going!

Telai: Ok. Now I only have to work on my passport! I still have to renew it.

Lady: Me too. I still have to get mine!

Telai thinks: Great. We both have tickets to Hong Kong but no passport yet! What a laugh.

Lady: Impromptu decisions bru!

Telai: I loves it! Thanks for the motivation bru! :)

Lady: We’re gonna get lost in Hong Kong together!!!
